Walter Fister

Walter Fister

Residence: Lexington, Kentucky

KHHA Director Since: Late '80s

Reason for running: “I am mainly interested in creating a better program for all facets of standardbred horses in the state.”

Walter bought his first standardbred in 1968, only a year after returning from the military and three years after graduating from the University of Kentucky.  He went on to get his trainer’s and driver’s license and raced at Louisville Downs, Latonia, and The Red Mile for 10 years.  He proceeded to give up driving and training his own stock, and has since hired trainers while remaining in the industry as an active owner and breeder for the last 32 years.
